A High Scoring Match Is Expected in Ranchi For the 2nd ODI Against South Africa

The second match of the ODI series between India and South Africa is being played in Ranchi. South Africa captain Keshav Maharaj won the toss and decided to bat first. 2-2 changes have been made in the playing XI of both teams.

Temba Bavuma and Tabrez Shamsi are not playing today’s match for South Africa. At the same time, Washington Sundar and Shahbaz Ahmed have been given a chance in place of Rituraj Gaikwad and Ravi Bishnoi in Team India.

No team in any sport in the world wants to lose. No one wants to make or equal the world record of defeat. But, the match against South Africa at Ranchi’s JSCA Stadium on Sunday has come with a similar threat to India. Apart from this, there is also the fear of losing the series.

High scoring match expected

So far five ODIs have been played in Ranchi. Three of these have a score of 280 plus. Once a score above 300 is also made. Only once has the team batting first scored less than 260 runs. This happened in the very first ODI held here in 2013. Then England’s team was reduced to 155 against India. Team India has batted later in its five matches played here.

India has won in two. Two were defeated and one match ended inconclusively. In the first ODI, Team India was defeated by 49 runs while chasing the target. In such a situation, the team may prefer to bat first. However, if it is cloudy in the afternoon, then the decision to bowl first can also prove to be good.

The Indian team could not win an ODI series against South Africa in India since 2012. A win in this match will keep India’s hopes of ending the wait alive. Also, with the victory in this match, Team India will also break the series of four consecutive defeats in ODI cricket against South Africa. India has not been able to beat South Africa anywhere at home or away in this format since 2020.
