The biggest upset happened on Friday in the T20 World Cup 2022. Two-time world champion West Indies crashed out of the tournament in the qualifying round itself. Ireland defeated the world champion team by 9 wickets.
This is the first time that no world-champion team has reached the main round. West Indies won the T20 World Cup title in 2012 and 2016. In the ICC rankings, Ireland’s team is in 12th place, while the West Indies team is at number seven.

West Indies Out From The Tournament: 3 reasons to lose a match
- Irish Spinners
Ireland’s spinners performed effectively. They continued to give one blow to the West Indies and the Caribbean team failed to make a big score. Spinners took 4 out of 5 wickets. One wicket was taken by medium pacer McCarthy.
2. Irish Batting
The Irish opener got off to a smoky start after a stellar performance from the bowlers. By crossing the 100-run mark in 11 overs, every pressure was removed. Captain Balbirnie played an innings of 37 runs. An opening partnership of 73 runs with Paul Stirling. Sterling scored 56 not out and Tucker scored 47 not out.
3. West Indies Topper Order Failed
West Indies top order failed. In the middle order, Brendan King (62) took the innings but no other batsman could support it.
Luck also left, favoring Ireland
Smith’s ball was caught by Tucker in an attempt to pull. They headed towards the pavilion. Then the third umpire gave the no-ball decision and Tucker came back.
